Product Test #2 – It’s lip smackin’ good!

4 Apr

Dear Loyal Readers:

The OMP is excited this month. Very very excited. We are testing out all natural lip balms for the month of April! I am a confessed lip balm addict and have been for as long as I can remember. They’re everywhere – in every purse and pocket, in the car and at my desk. I panic when I’m out somewhere and don’t have one. I make a beeline for the nearest Shoppers. I recently eyed a book at Chapters called something like “Is Your Lipbalm addictive?”. The answer is YES. I don’t need to read a book to know that!

According to Gill Deacon in “There’s Lead in Your Lipstick”:

In addition to creating further demand for non-renewable resources, the problem wih lip balms like these is the harsh chemical contents going right down our throats into our stomachs. Super-thin layers of skin on the lips mean that any petroleum or parrafin in our lip balms makes an immediate transfer to our bloodstream, either by being licked or eaten off, or simply by being absorbed through those few laters of skin cells. (Gill Deacon, “There’s Lead in Your Lipstick”, page 133.

When I started shopping for lip balms I went a little nuts so I am testing out 6 different ones. Here they are in no particular order:

  • Mountain Sky Love Thy Lips Balm (Raspberry) – $3.49 for 4.25 g.
  • Badger Balm Ginger & Lemon Lip Balm Stick – $3.49 for 4.3 g.
  • Dr. Bronner’s Magic Organic Lip Balm (Orange Ginger) – $3.99 for 4 g.
  • Aubrey Organics Lip Balm (Raspberry) – $3.99 for 4.25 g.
  • Alba Pineapple Quench Lip Balm – $3.89 for 4.20 g.
  • Now Foods Peppermint Completely Kissable Lip Balm – $3.99 for 4.25 g.
  •

I forsee absolutely no problems in switching over to one or more of these wonderful products.
I love hearing from you! Spread the word!
Until the next time,
The OMP

This is great! I love lip balm, too! My daughter (16), has been making it for two years… sooooooooo easy, so cheap and so much fun. One batch before Christmas and we have enough for the winter including all the presents for extended family.

When you know what goes into it, it is rather reassuring.

Thank you for reading and thanks for the comment!
If you like, please share your recipe for the lip balm. I’d like to compare it to others I’ve seen.

K experiments, so not sure what the recipe it. I know the base has always been cappings beeswax and vegetable oil. The last batch also had vitamin E and rosewater, I think!
